IDB and Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MOESCT) together designed and launched education quality improvement project (EQIP) with the aim to improve the quality of primary education and the governance of the Belize Education System. In phase 2 of the project, the government and IDB have been working to: (i) improve the quality of primary school teachers by expanding the inquiry- and problem-based learning approach; (ii) improve the quality of secondary education teachers by improving teaching practices with a focus on student-centered science and mathematics learning; and (iii) promote gender-sensitive STEAM teaching.
As part of the process, in 2021, Belize won the prestigious IDB’s Superheroes for Development Award based on its evidence-based IPP learning approach.
