The MOECST has joined forces with the IDB and Nova Scotia Community College to create a two year training program in renewable energies. The course is part of an initiative that aims to develop skills to access the Green and Blue Economy through TVET.
Renewable energy and energy efficiency course – Skills to Access the Green Economy through TVET in the Caribbean
A two year renewable energy and energy efficiency course will be launched in the Belize City ITVET in September 2023.
The course will provide a basic certification after the first year and a more advanced certification/degree at the end of the second year.
Year I – Renewable energies and energy efficiency, including energy demand management
Year II – Specialization in solar photovoltaic energy, with an option to focus on second technology
The course will use an inquiry- and problem-based pedagogical approach, including hands-on practical activities for students
The Government’s aspiration is that Belize will become a regional laboratory for the training in renewable energy in the English-speaking Caribbean. Belize’s small population makes it the perfect country to develop scalable, adaptable, and easily transferable renewable energy courses for other countries in the region, closing the skills gap in these other countries as well.
